It was cold and windy.
Lance palyed well.
So di the back 4.

And Liam was back to normal with his substitutions.

Isn't that sort of talk against the rules Wilson ? or are ex Springfleet 'keepers exempt ??

I give upI agree, sasha was definitely not at his best, I wanted duncan on to replace him, as I feel we could have won it. A couple of sloppy passes, Crooks recovered but then kept passing it to the york players, gash had a couple of bad balls, but overall chased the ball, laid off a couple of perfect passes, which none was on the end of to receive. His frustration was starting to show. May I point out that if it was not for gash, scoring two goals against Swindon Supermarines we would be out of the cup, the problem may be that he was bought by myfc money, and some fans do not like this, well tough. He always give 110% and he is filling the role that John Akinde played, if he is delivering the balls and no-one is running onto them how is that his fault.
We should get off his back, get behind him, you all loved him when he scores, but he is a team player (something that is pretty rare), and although a striker, who must be frustrated by not bagging goals, is playing as target man, and is the top goal scorer with 11, and a few assists.
So come on what is it with gash that you hate, he plays for the team, not himself. Why was sacha not booed for his appalling passing, or crooks as he gave the ball away a few times.I support the club, support the team, I believe in the fleet.

Re: Michael Gash - It would seem that some people will never change their views;
I was walking back to the car discussing the game with my son. My view was that the defence were pretty solid, Darius was outstanding again, but that we did not get enough from the creative playes. Gez, Stacy and Luke just did not get involved enough for us to push for the win that our possession warranted.
An old girl in front of me butted into our conversation to say that there was only one person out there that didn't give enough - GASH. He never does anything.
I was a little taken aback as I do not think that he had too bad a game, he was certainly not as anonymous as many of our more creative players and he worked his socks off.
She said that he was lazy, never gave anything EVER and that he was supposed to be a prolific striker.
I remained calm in the face of her spittle strewn invective and told her that we would have to agree to disagree - it is all a matter of opinion - she nearly turned purple with apoplectic rage. Telling me that I did not know what I was talking about.
Our journey into the car park parted but I was able to hear her noisy blasts for quite some time.
If THAT team performance in THAT quite dreary game can cause that amount of anger at Michael Gash, then he will never win some people over.11 goals from a young kid playing his first season at this level in a team that is (lets be honest) struggling is a very good return. And he will only get better

Totally agree with you. He seems to have become a target for people to vent their frustrations at. Something that I fear now he'll struggle to shake off. He didn't have a bad game yesterday.

I was more concerned with the unambitious choice of substitutes and their use rather than individual performmances.
A keeper, centre half, left back and 2 right wingers doesn't fill you with the optomistic hope that if it all goes pear shaped during the first hour, there is plenty of attacking options on the bench.
The game had 0-0 written all over it after 45 minutes.
Shakes came on 15 minutes too late, but made an immediate impact, bringing out a fine save from the keeper.
Then nothing.
It was telling that our 3 best chances came from Charles, Opinel and Shakes.
Not that Liam had a lot of choice on the bench.
Then on the stroke of 90 minutes he brought on a left back for a left winger.
Baffling.
In order to pull clear from the relegation zone, we need to score goals - which generally come from strikers.
Surely at least one place on the bench could have been found for Judge or Ibe?
We are near the bottom because we deserve to be. We score fewer goals than most, and we need to score more than the team we are playing to pull clear.
How about a bit of creativity and attacking options on the bench against Burton, Liam?
My team would be:
Cronin
Ricketts Crooks Charles Duncan
Shakes Barrett Martin Long
Gash Moore
Subs
Mott, Pooley, Ibe, Sole, Judge.Posted 1 year ago # -

Michael Gash knows a huge majority of the fans are behind him, and the minority doesn't bother him at all.

Some people form an instant opinion about a player and never change their view no matter what they see on the pitch. Luke Moore has the same people on his back every match no matter how he plays. Sasha can do no wrong in some peoples eyes but at the moment wouldn't be in my starting line up (no I don't want to PTT). Some fans have had a downer on Gash from day 1 and will never see the good things he does. Strange thing opinions!!

I agree, Ronnie, I would go for Duncan too, looks a more composed defender at present, and uses the ball rather more creatively than Sacha.

Personally, I fail to understand why Michael Gash is under constant criticism, maybe it is because he has the £20,000 price tag on him. Michael Gash is a good player, he's our top goal scorer I believe? Michael Gash is at his best when the team are playing on the floor football, and not "route one" football. Yesterday was a mix of route one and one the floor football, but Michael Gash still played some good stuff now and again, and we can't expect footballers to have good games all the time. If he was no good, why would Liam Daish bother to buy him? How people can criticise Gash when he's the club's top goal scorer at the moment... I'll never know.

Well that's good to know. All the same, unfair persistent criticism is never nice.

I think Gash has improved a lot since the start of the season. He's not the biggest so hopeful punts in the air into the penalty area are never likely to bring results, especially as it seems that most opponents have two 6 foot 5 centre halves !

It was hard going yesterday. Football on Sundays is just wrong.

So true. It was ten times harder going coping with the mother of all hangovers.

Haha. That'll learn you for drinking.
I could have done without the hailstorm at kick off as well.

I just hope the core of fans are behind him. Michael Gash is a much improved player, and is for me, a guy who works his socks off for the rest of the team. He is now able to climb and get his head to the ball more often than not. At times when he able to get the ball at his feet, he is quality. It's just the long high punts upfield that appear to frustrate him. Referees tend to penalise him if he tries to bring the ball down on his chest to his feet, backing on to a defending player. I don't know how he can overcome this problem.
As for an earlier post concerning an old woman slagging him off, she obviously hasn't a clue. This is the type of fan that will rant at anything and any player.
I'm an old fogie halfway liner and see most of the game. Behind the goal fans cannot see what's happening at the other end of the pitch.
Can we not have a word with so called fans who slag of players within earshot, I do. If they don't like the way Fleet play, save their money and don't go.Bring on Burton and finish the job the lads started.
FOLLOW THE FLEET.

I could have done without the hailstorm at kick off as well.Somehow I doubt it, I'm a glutten for punishment. Explains why I watch the Fleet I suppose. Odd day all round really. A win would have helped.

At half time there was another fiasco, what the hell was going on we did not care, it sent us to sleep, then some jessy handed over his manhood to his girlfriend and in return she set about destroying his life, AKA he proposed and she accepted.

Football is all about opinions which is why we love it. I was behind the Plough End and it does amaze me how entrenched some people are. For some Sacha can do no wrong; Gash can do no right- amazing.
The first half was pretty dull, but we did enough in the second half to win it. Sacha had the best chance to score from a corner but put it wide. He took his eye off the ball as it came over. That's the difference with a pure striker; they only ever watch the ball.
There's something not quite right with Sunday football. I think it's to do with Monday following instead of Saturday night/Sunday to look forward to.

There was a keepy uppy competion and a marriage proposal....
Posted 1 year ago # -
That's not tacky at all! Taking the Fleet experience to a new level. Lol.
Who won the keepy uppy, any good?
Posted 1 year ago # -
The keepy-uppy was with a square ball which made it about as interesting as the proposal !!!
