Apparently ESPN have just officially announced that they are no longer interested in the TV rights for Conference footy.

Although it's not much of a surprise, I'd expect the daunting realism of lost revenue to now hit a number of clubs. Fun times ahead!..

Ultimatly this will create a bigger gap between the bigger attended clubs in the division and smaller attended clubs. The tv money acted really as a bit of a leveller.
I don't suspect given we had budgetted for this money we are immune to this either.

    Tough times ahead indeed.

Absolutely right - it's going to be a rough ride for everyone. We're in a hole as well and need to find £60K to fill it with - that's on top of the £25K we're behind budget on gates. All eyes are on the ground purchase right now, but next we need to pull another rabbit out of someone's hat to sort this out.

A bumper 3000 gate on Saturday will do no harm - especially if the weather is fair and AFC bring 1500 - which could net the club around £20,000.
What of course would help in the long run if the fringe supporters who only turn out for the 'big' games are so impressed with a display of fluent football from us (and a good result) they will come back for more, using the discount vouchers.

No it won't. In no way was it a leveller.

At the beginning of every season all clubs got the same amount.

Then, when games started to be televised, the bigger clubs got on tv lots of times so got more money, Northwich were not on TV at all, for example, so got only the basic payment. Compared with clubs like Stevenage, Cambridge, Oxford and York who were all on a lot more it is very unfair on the smaller clubs, like us.

I take your point, Paul - there was a televised element to the payments that favoured bigger clubs. But given the differentials in budgets in this league, then Setanta/ BSP paying us £60K and Cambridge even £120K still helped reduce the percentage difference. Smaller clubs also have fewer alternative sources of funding and will struggle more with the shortfall imo - another sign that it had a levelling effect.

Looks to me as though Cambridge were paid 50% more than we were going by your figures there V.

From a gate perspective they are given three times what we are, hence why I said it was a bit of a leveller.

Exactly. And I would add that my figure above was as I indicated a "bestguesstimate".

Whatever. It may not be a factor if this is true.

Shame the FA use their own initials to determine interest in clubs outside the Premier League...

    That's quite amazing if true.

Re Jeff's link, if it is true then the 20 clubs are only giving 50k each, less than half a weeks wages for some of their players, and if the total is split equally between the 68 clubs then each would receive £14705.88. Every little helps but the skeptic in me thinks that the former league clubs will get a bigger slice than anyone else

Not so sure about that. I would imagine that all teams in the BSP will get the same and the two feeder leagues a little less but also evenly distributed.

Yeah, nice gesture. But imagine half the amount goes to the 24 BSP clubs and the other half to the 44 BSN/ BSS clubs... That translates to around £20K per BSP club if split evenly - and potentially a lot less for the Fleet if split according to share of Setanta loss or average gate or whatever.

I wouldn't turn it down, but it is but a pint in our dry riverbed of challenges.
