Despite the very welcome wins recently and our 'apparent' rise up the table we are still in fact in a very precarious position.
There are two teams below us who we must accept will probably climb above us due to the number of games in hand they have. The Fleet have now played 32 games (more than any other team in the league) and Barrow have six games in hand and are only two points behind us, Eastbourne have three games in hand and are only one point adrift.
If these two teams do in fact jump above us we would be back in 20th position again (just clear of the relegation zone).
However if we can carry on winning, as we have been recently, we should by the end of the season be safe, lets hope so - Up the Fleet!!

But we have points on the table and have to play both at home.
I agree its still precarious , but I would rather have points then games in hand
Posted 6 months ago # -
Generally I would agree but when it is 6 matches in hand its difficult to see them not getting a couple of points out of it.

I said in December that we would need 50 points at least to be safe.
I still stick to that figure, meaning we still require 20 points from 14 games. Certainly a more optimistic situation than at the end of November.
Work still to do, but wins against Histon York, Barrow, Chester,Eastbourne and Gateshead, plus the chance of a point at Crawley and Salisbury gives real hope that we will survive.Posted 6 months ago # -
45 will see us safe this season.
Five more wins. We've got three in the last three weeks.
We still have to play a lot of the teams around us.
Barrow's schedule getting further clogged up will be fine with me. Even since Xmas we've gained so many points on them, if the trend continues then it may not matter how many games thy have in hand.
If they win on Tuesday in their Trophy replay then that'll mean we have more games on them, they'll have seven games on us and hopefully be playing Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday throughout March and April.

Well we have got Chester H, Histon H, Gateshead H&A, Barrow H, Eastbourne H so that would put us in good stead. Would love us to get a win against our bogey team histon, but york is a different story i believe we can get a result next saturday but would be happy with a point.

Brodie is off form apparently.
Posted 6 months ago # -
What a shame i think he has only got 2 in his last 6 games plus he has served a 2 match ban for 10 yellow cards! From what i remember he is a bit of a dirty player, just need Leon and Darius to kick him up in the air a few times.

Tuesdays replay could have an effect on us. Barrow wins and they have more problems with fixture congestion. A Gateshead victory will see our game on 20th off and a long long trip north on a Tuesday night

Brodie has 2 in 6
Magno has 6 in 3I know who I'd fancy to win that battle
I fancy us beating Histon on Tues and possibly getting a draw against York.

1 game at a time, all the time we are winning games then that's all the team can do.

I and so many others that I have spoken to would rather have points on the board then games in hand, the pressure is on them.
FORGET EVERYONE ELSE, as long as The Fleet keeping winning or drawing we will 110% stay up!
BELIEVE!!!!

BELIEVE!!!!That's certainly the way to look at it.
7 wins from 11 is top form. Aslong as we keep winning and getting points, we don't need to worry about anyone except ourselves. Already been mentioned, with Salisbury, Barrow, Eastbourne, Gateshead(twice), Chester(If they haven't folded) we should be looking at getting wins against most of those. As HJA as mentioned, Barrow will end up playing 4 games in the space of 7 days, which will be good.Up The Fleet!

4 points ahead of FGR 7 5 ahead of Gateshead - those are the 2 most important teams, I suspect. Ok. FGR have 2 games in hand and Gateshead have 3 but both would need good results in those gamesto get up level with or past us. as we play Gateshead both home and away before the end of the season, 2 wins there could carry us clear of them.

Let's forget about looking down, look up. Cambridge only three points more than us, Hayes pulled right back into the dogfight and they've only got one game in hand on us. And still with Gateshead and Eastbourne to play among others.

Good results against Histon and York will go a long way to taking the mighty Fleet upwards

Talking about all these teams with games in hand over us, this is good as I believe this puts a huge amount of pressure on teams. I recall last year that we had alot of games in hand against those around us, and we shit out in a big way, and were still in the same position after we had played them!!!

Chester are at FGR on Tuesday, I really can't see them do us any favours.
Posted 6 months ago # -
My main concern is with our poor goal difference, which is effectively a point deduction for us when we are on the same points as other teams.
I cannot see us getting into credit so it is going to be down to winning games.Posted 6 months ago # -
I personally think we can get the results required, our strikers are in immense form at the moment and our midfield is stable and are working together. Stability is a key word we are quite lucky with suspensions and injuries so i feel that this is an important part to the team. Darius is the only one near a suspension with 4 yellows.

The games in hand v points in the bag argument is different depending on which end of the table you are.
Those at the top will be winning the majority of their games so 2 games in hand will probably = 4 or 6 points. At the bottom, the teams are averaging less than a point per game, so whilst I agree that Eastbourne and Barrow should go above us as things stand, Forest Green need to win both of their games and Gateshead need two wins from their three games.
Of course, there is always the chance for other teams around us to hit a purple patch like we have, but 4 or 6 points this week will see us with breathing space

It's just great to be winning games and not dreading the next defeat.
28 November 2009 when we scored against Mansfield to stop the drought seems a long time ago.Bromley away on October 24 is even longer ago, which I know was but you know what I mean.
I can't decide which is more nerve wracking; being at a match and waiting for the final whistle or watching the scores unfold on Sky.

Just to clarify the situation with cautions, at this stage of the season if a player reaches 5 cautions he will not be suspended but he will get a letter from the FA saying "you have been a naughty boy" or words to that effect, the next target for a suspension is 10 cautions and this carries a 2 match suspension.
On the face of it we are in a good position to not sustain any suspensions through cautions alone
Posted 6 months ago # -
You are jumping the gun a bit there:
From the FA Handbook:
5 CautionsIf a player receives 5 cautions between the first day of the season and the last day of February they will be suspended for a period of 1 match and be fined £15.
If a player receives a 5th caution after the last day in February they will be warned as to their future conduct.10 Cautions
If a player receives 10 cautions between the first day of the season and the second Sunday in April they will besuspended for a period of 2 matches and be fined £15.
If a player receives a 10th caution after the 2nd Sunday in April they will be severely censured and warned as to their future conduct.Posted 6 months ago # -
Dave,
If you listen to what all of the media etc have been saying, then they have been reminding fans that there is no longer a ban for 5 yellows, just a letter from the F.A. like Peter said. The change has come in this season.

I like the sound of a £15 fine though....I used to get fined more than that when I played for Fleetway Printers years ago !!
A letter from the FA ?......that must scare the sh*t out of the players !!! I hope they put a stamp on it !
Cheers,

talking about waiting for the final whistle at matches i do not look at my watch much anymore that wimbledon game proved fatal .so i see when the second half starts and then thats it. i find that clock watching gives bad vibes. It's just great to be winning games and not dreading the next defeat.
