Publicity - lobby the Reporter

We all agree that the club is in a financial mess - the only real way of surviving and thriving is to get bums on seats and the good people of North Kent flocking back through the turnstiles.
Lots of ideas have been suggested and impemented, the one area we haven't really exploited is a big publicity vampaign through the Reporter.
We can all write a quick e-mail or letter pleading with the folks to come and see us. Perhaps if enough write in, the will do a big lead story - "Your Club needs YOU" or something on those lines.
Does Webed have any influence? He does his column and speaks to the editor - we need to get them onside and keep hammering home the story.
The still are a club sponsor - and it could be a great headline - The Reporter helps save the local club"

If we labour the point that without significant increases in attendances to what the club needs to survive (1500-2000?) we will see the club decline from it's priviledged status in the National Conference back to the bad old days of Rymans football.

I therefore suggest we all write in asap, hopefully get the ball rolling in time for next week's publication and rekindle interest in time for the York game on the 13th.
    Just an idea.
My letter will be e-mailed tonight.
    Hopefully the first of hundreds.

The problem is Gaz the local community don't give a monkeys about how we are doing, the fairweather supporters come crawling out from the woodwork when the club has a good campaign or if we have get a massive game for example Aston Villa and the FA trophy final game.
Also i bet you that the number of people that buy the Gravesend Reporter or Messenger don't even read the backpage to see how we get on. Also the handing out of pamphlets to members of the community on a saturday morning didn't really work either seeing as it was probably short notice for people to attend the game, when they obviously had already made arrangements. How many actually attended via those pamphlets?

I buy the Reporter (have it delivered with my daily) and todays carries the lead article on the back page headed Daish's Call For Calm and a £2 off admission voucher. Inside the back page is a report on last week's game at Luton, Ed Miller's usual contribution 'Fleet Life' and a reverse block article highlighting and encouraging people to support the Fleet and other snippets. These 3 articles completely fill the inside back page. The Reporter does a fantastic job for our club and should be applauded for it.

I think that we have to stop thinking like that though. i don't deny that broadly you are right, but we don't need the whole of the local community to turn up, we just need a few hundred. The issue is to find them and then keep in touch. A camp[paign like this is worthwhile, particularly so if it is designed in such a way as to provoke contact. persistence is what is needed.

Maybe in the summer get some lucrative pre season games that will get them through the doors.

i understand that is has been suggested that the Kent Senior cup should be moved to become a pre season tournament. Ok don't want to go overboard on the "lucrative" for this but a competitive series of games, all against local rivals when fans are probably keen to watch a bit of footy again may turn a competition that is seen as a pain in the butt into a reasonable money spinner.
