Here's a bit of light relief from our recent on field exploits, this is a vote on this forum only to try to find The Fleet's number 1 all time most Legendary player, Some may feel that Steve Portway fits the bill, or of course Jimmy Jackson, or even maybe Sasha Opinel, or could it be a player from way further back, to the glory days of the FA Cup run that saw us miss out to Sunderland (eventually), the younger fans might go for players such as Luke Moore or FA Trophy Winner Chris Mcphee, the poll will run for 7 days and will end at 10pm on 6th February 2010, I will count the votes and publish them, this is nothing official, just opinions of Fleet Supporters that visit this forum. Get Voting.

I'll start, for me it's got to be the ever present and reliable Jimmy Jackson, Fleet through and through and a member of the Gravesend And Northfleet side that took on The Might of Aston Villa at Villa park in the FA Cup, always a fans favourite and a wonderful player that really should have made it to a much higher level of football, in many ways though it was Jimmy's level headedness and reluctance for the spotlight that prevented him really realising his full potential, but for The Fleet, he was and is a Legend and he gets my vote.

JJ is a good shout, but there is only one Fleet player who can be called a 'phenomenon', Portway.
His goals to games ratio was extraordinary.
It's a pity he dicn't get a chance with us at a better standard than he did, I'm sure he would have done brilliantly at Conference level.
The only game he played against league opposition was the fa cup match at Orient- it didn't take Ports long to undo their defence.

I agree, Mcphee purely for his great attitude, performances and most importantly his wembley winning goal! Plus i'm not really old enough to remember some of the legends

IMO Mcphee's goal was made by the skill of Akinde..but for sure he played a big part in getting there and of course scoring the winner! and definatley should be up there but i dont think number 1, 3 or 4 maybe.

Having seen players from 1955 to 2000, in that era, It has to be Steve Portway, his pace and scoring ability made him a great player!

Since I've only watched the Fleet since 2004, for me it's got to be Jimmy Jackson!

That is why you will never get a difinitive answer, Hannah. We should probably vote for a player of each decade, then I would probably be with you on this one!

Yeh I think one from each decade would be better! Otherwise I'm guessing it will be outweighed with more recent players.

It has to be Sir Steven Portway one of the most natural goalscorers i have seen in 25 years of watching the fleet closely followed by Jacko, Ross smith and Mickey Cotter.

I'll go with Logie for the 50's
The only player who's legs were so bowed, he could nutmeg himself!

It's the return of the Kieron Hello mate, good to hear from you again, always nice to have a thread where people hopefully won't start insulting each other and spitting dummies out, but I doubt it

By the way I believe Steve Mckimm went to Dover as a player coach, correct me if I'm wrong someone.

That's fine if people want to vote by the decade, but make sure you put the decade next to the player you are voting for, I will publish results from each decade, especially for you Golden Oldies cos you can't all be youthful like me

maybe the fleet supporters should run a poll for players of XXXX decade and honor them w/ a plaque and a day of recognition during a future match
