Gutted. I was hoping he would stay on more than most of last seasons squad.

As you say BadWolf, not a big surprise and all the best to Lance, even if it is Gills.

    Come on Lance, reject it!

Good luck to him, deserves that opportunity at Football League level to show everyone what he can do, he'll always be welcomed back here.

198 isn't it? As the Chester game didn't count.

    Yep, 198.

I'm sure I read (but can't find it now) that Dover have released Lee Hook - played 300+ games for Eastbourne including their promotion season and first season in the Conference and played for Dover last season. Might be worth a shout?

I believe Lance played the full 90 mins for the Gills tonight vs Bishop Stortford so it be very unlikely he will be playing tomorrow.

Did he? From where we were standing he got lobbed from 20 yards (again), and the soft header for the 2nd goal went straight through him. The team are looking good, but I'm very concerned about the goalkeeper.

Don't know where you were standing mate. That was a fluke goal if ever there was one. Hit the bar hit the goalkeeper on the way down and then went in the net. The wry look on the scorers face said it all as he walked away. I thought the keeper played very well, at least he calls loudly when he knows the ball is his. Give the lad a fair crack of the whip before condemning him.

The shot was from 30-35 yards out, not 20 yards.
    Preston WAS unlucky.
In fairness, the keeper was correct in being 4 or 5 yards off his line when the ball is out there.
It was almost impossible to save that shot, dipping down and hitting the underside of the bar.

Like i have said before Preston had a shocking defence at Grays, so i feel we should give him some time, obviously Liam must like the look of him if he played 45 mins at Aveley and then 90 yesterday.

It was not a lob by any stretch of the imagination. The guy hit the ball with venom, I would suggest few keepers would have saved it, the ball seem to have spin on it and dip just in front the goal.

You could argue it was a good goal. Or a fluke all day long Personally i think it was a fluke. I would doubt even lance would have stopped it. As foer the second goal stone swas in the wrong position he should never have allowed the header. We cant moan about preston when he was at grays there defence was poor.lance is a good keeper and he still let in a fair few.So im sticking to my thougt that preston would be a good keeper for us and with pooley and lorraine in front he has good protection.

Good luck to Lance, just a shame it has to be them.

Edwards looked decent IMO. Gillingham piled a few tricky shots at him, a couple bouncing just in front of him(always hard for a keeper) and he dealt with it well. The send goal, he couldn't do much about.. A header from 6 yards out, only a brilliant keeper would have a chance of saving it. The first goal, anyone who blames him, is pathetic. He was 6 yards of his line, when the ball was near the half way line.. Lance would have been the same.. He tried his hardest to prevent it from crossing the line, and they just got lucky with it, hitting the crossbar, rebounding off Edwards, then dropping in. He picked himself up from that, and had a decent game. Good luck to him.

I don't normally bite, but don't call people that differ from your opinion 'pathetic' fella.

It's not an opinion though is it, he simply cannot be blamed for it.. He tried his hardest to keep it out, and whenever it rebounds of the keeper and goes in, it's always unlucky.

Of course it's an opinion, everything in football is an opinion, I certainly don't agree with YOUR opinion that the keeper was blameless, insulting people for commenting is not the way to do it, I just hope he improves for the sake of the Team.

    But that's just MY opinion.

He's played One and a half games for us, and he's getting stick already.

Away at Aveley(people on here didn't even go and have slated him) from what I saw, he made at least 4 decent stops, and didn't concede.

Yesterday he conceded Two against a strong League Two side, the first one wasn't his fault, and the second one he was never going to get to. He made a couple of decent saves, needs to be given time, we've still got 5 friendlies left if I'm correct?

Anyone following Lance is in a no win situation. He was the England C keeper and deserves to be playing at a much higher level.

The best keeper at The Fleet? I'm not sure as we have been blessed with some good ones! Anyone we get is not going to be as good as Lance as we cant afford an expierienced one and haven't the time to try an untested youth.

I had real reservations about Preston when I heard he was trialing but he had no chance with the first goal and was hopelessly exposed by poor defending for the second. Give him a chance and stop getting at the bloke before he even signs. He commanded the penalty area and thats half a job done already as HG will tell you!

Anyway its going to be worth him playing for the caberet value alone if the verbal spat he had with Sealey in the second half is anything to go by.......... That was class!

I think the keeper played pretty well, and when he took a goal kick, it went mostly to one of our players.
I agree, this is only the second game, and I think we should get behind every player this year, rather than picking out one of our own players for a hate target.
I was encouraged by what i saw, and think preston would be a good signing, as with some of the other trialists, especially 17, he was trouble on that wing.
    as liam says believe

I for one have confidence in Preston more so than I did for Lance actually. But that is MY OPINION. Slag me off if you wish.

    Spot on BJM.

Half the job is 'owning' the 18 yard box, by being a sweeper, directing defenders on marking, and clean handling.
1/4 is communicating with your defenders and keeping possession of the ball either by accurate kicking or creative throws out.
Lastly, a thing that many, many keepers have is the ability to stop shots.
It is the first thing that singles out a great keeper from one who is just 'decent'.
You can all have opinion, but whilst Lance has an exceptional abilty to save goals, his distribution was very one dimensional ie, big punt upfield. He even did it yesterday!!
My own belief, is, that given some good coaching from Ron H, Preston has it in him to become a very fine keeper. He already ticks 2 out of the 3 boxes.
