Getting 25,000 fans to Wembley and 3750 to Stonebridge Road to watch Swindon Supermarine (who?) shows enormous potential to get more Bums on Seats (BOS). With this in mind the Fleet Trust are launching an initiative to convert some of these “one match” supporters to swell the number of loyal fans that attend every Fleet home game.

The Fleet BOS Squad will be launched at a meeting at Stonebridge Road on Thursday the 25th June at 8.00 pm. All Fleet Supporters are welcome. You don’t need to understand the internet, belong to MyFC or the Fleet Trust but if you do fine. The only qualification is to be a Fleet supporter who cares and lives within a 5 mile radius of Stonebridge Road.

Apart from the efforts of Mark Nielson and his small band of helpers in the Town Centre there has been very little done to promote Matchdays. When did you last see a Matchday poster or Fixture List in your local shop, pub, club or take-away? Or get a leaflet through your door promoting “Friends of the Fleet”, the Fleet Trust Lottery or MyFC?

With a small team of local volunteers happy to walk their local streets for less than an hour a week in their own time we can make this happen. You don’t even need a car!! The extra exercise must be worth it.

Come to the meeting on the 25th. Your input and ideas will be essential to make sure this works.

If you are attending please phone Steve Miles on 07710 540732 (leave a message if no answer) or email him at conectar@gotadsl.co.uk or send a private mail through either the MyFC or Ebbsfleet Fans Forums – user name Milesy. If you can’t attend, don’t worry, contact Steve with your ideas and confirm your willingness to help in any small way.

Alternatively speak to Jessica, Brian Glover (brianglo) or Paul Jarvis (HarryJAllstars).

“It took me nearly 40 years of living in Gravesend before I attended my first game at Stonebridge Road. And I consider myself to be a football fan!!!” Steve Miles (Milesy) 2009

I shall talk to the manager in the Hempstead villiage Co-op, with a view to putting posters in the window.
    It's a busy store, open 0600-2200 , 7 days per week.

Has anybody checked and thought to book the hall???????

Also, match posters are delivered around the local pubs, if they don't want to put them up that's their choice.....we can't force them to.

Jessica has confirmed hall is booked - do you know otherwise??

No force involved!!!! Just trying to cover as much of the local area as possible in a "nice" way and involve a few more supporters to help.

As far as we're aware, the hall's not booked. Jo is away on holiday, and there's nothing in the folder.

    Hi Rachel.

The model we are looking at will give ownership of an area to nominated supporters in that area. We dont wish to tread on anyones feet regarding work already being undertaken and if the posters are already being delivered , maybe we can integrate an already working model into our works in progress.

I'll just give my opinion, as I won't be able to attend.....and some of this probably has been covered before......

.....if we are going to leaflet drop pubs.....then do it in good time....not on the Saturday of the game.

I have been having a pre match beer in a town pub Saturday lunch ( with fleet shirt on !) and someone has brought leaflets in advertising that afternoon's game........a bit late ?

    I am not criticising.....just giving an opinion....as a supporter.

    Cheers,

Good point Hirsty. I'd envisaged doing about a week before the game. I'll ask peoples views at the meeting on timing etc.

If you can try and come it would be great - let me know.

It's quite disappointing to see a really good intitiative already being criticised.

People are trying to help - if you actually let them then stuff might get done!

Sainsburys at Pepperhill sponsor the club by providing fruit for the players I think. Maybe this could be developed to get them to handout discount vouchers and promote games.

We need some lateral thinking like this at the meeting on the 25th. Can you make it???

Theres no need for them to hand out anything if a voucher of some kind is printed on the back of the till receipt. Can probably be done at a local level as well so probably no need to approach their head offices?

The club will have a contact at sainsburys - I'll track down. Can anyone get a contact for Morrisons.

If you are attending the meeting on the 25th send me a pm, email me at conectar@gotadsl.co.uk or ring me (Steve Miles) on 07710 540732 (leave a message if no answer).

If you can’t attend, don’t worry, contact me with your ideas and confirm your willingness to help in any small way.

Alternatively speak to Jessica, Brian Glover or Paul Jarvis .

This isn't an appeal for your money but if we can crack this it will significantly increase the revenue for the club.

The first part of this project which we will announce could take less then an hour.

It is hoped that the initial stage will lift the profile in the area.

If it was free speech then I would say in reply...."YAWN......" but I would get told off by the mods for that, so I won't say it !

Come along to the meeting. Its easy to say "lower prices" and so on , but the club needs to be promoted aropund the town and that is what this project is about.

Everyone can get involved for just a few hours of their time every month

Thanks to those that came last night. I will contact all those who couldn’t attend but have offered help in the next couple of days to bring you up to speed

The Clubs local catchment area (approx a 5 mile radius from Stonebridge Road) has been divided into 19 manageable “Patches” each of between 1500 to 3000 household.

With the number of attendees last night and commitments from people who could not attend we can cover at least 15 of the 19 “Patches” each managed by a supporter(s) living in that patch.

We agreed that we would initially focus on distributing Matchday Posters and Fixture Lists. It was felt that locations where people congregate such as Pubs, Clubs, Take-Aways, Sports Centres etc. would be the best.

To suit different locations we would need different size posters (A3 & A4) and possibly provide free standing frames and leaflet holders for fixture cards.

The first task, now underway, is to identify and list specific locations (pubs, takeaways etc.) and if possible get agreement to display a poster/fixture list.

Our aim is to be ready to go at least a week before our first home friendly (Leyton Orient on the 21st July).

We are confident we can get artwork and posters printed at no cost.

IT IS STILL NOT TOO LATE TO HELP – THIS IS NOT AN ONEROUS JOB

Please pm me or contact Steve Miles on conectar@gotadsl.co.uk – tel. 07710 540732

Ideas are welcome but at the end of the day we are all good at ideas – we need the job done!!!!

    Just a brief update

The first posters have gone out in around 10 locations in the town centre. Volunteers to receive posters and information in next week.

It was also suggested that staff rest rooms could be another place to put these up.

Thanks to Milesy and Pete who have put in a lot of work on this and have a real structure to help the club
