January Transfer Window

With the next Transfer window fast approaching , the club are going to have some serious decisions to make. If the renewal of MYFC members does not happen at the speed or number that is needed ( which i dont think it will) we will have no option but to sell Darius and maybe Lance. I know that the club have Offers on the table for Darius already.
If we are to continue to exist we may have to bite the bullet and sell before we can progress, whether it be in this league or the Conference South. If we leave it to the end of season they will be free to walk away and we will be left in a worse scenario than at the start of this season, No money, no players to sell and not a single player on contract !
Not a lot of choice really !

If we get a good offer for darius i think we should consider it, the definite signings we have to make would be either extend the loan of stavrinou for another month or 2, get a replacement in for ross when he goes back to the USA and a striker or 2.
Liam has stated that he wants to bring in a few players in the transfer window and obviously he may release a couple of players, So i would say that the main concensus of us fleet supporters would be bring in 1 or 2 defenders ( depending on if we get an offer for darius ), a midfielder and 2 strikers.

The problem I guess is that the real amount of renewals won't be known until the end Feb by which time it'll be too late. Lance and Darius should both be sold if good offers come in that mean the future of the club can be secured, their wages would then be freed up for any transfers in Liam can make but any transfer fees I guess will be needed to keep the club afloat.

Their contracts are up at the end of the season so i wouldn't expect we would get much for the pair of them, I wouldn't personally sell lance but darius hasn't been consistent enought this season but still is a vital part of our BSP survival.

I would like to keep them both as I suppose many others would but, as mentioned, we would apppear not to have much choice if we need to find £235k to survive till then end of the season.

With darius and lance having 6 months left on their contracts i can't see us getting no more than 40-50k for the pair of them.

That's around 20% of the cash that we need just to stay alive. It's a no brainer!

I would be astonished if we got offered anything approaching 50K - another big advantage (in financial terms) of selling the two would be getting them off the wage bill - they are the two highest paid players at the club.

May I ask you how you got this information Dom? as I understand it this breaks FA rules on confidentiality of individual players salaries, unless the players themselves have given you the information, or you were subject to the signing of their contracts!
Or is it just another of your knowledgeable guesses?

40-50k is much less than if we sold them in the summer transfer window, in my eyes i think lance is one of the best Goalkeepers in the league as darius is one of the best defenders. I think we could of got close to a 6 figure fee for the pair.

Clubs in the running for honours this season, will normally have these two important positions well covered, and unless they had injury problems, I doubt they would be interested in taking more players for a fee. These clubs will probably be the only ones in a financial position to do so anyway. Clubs out of honour contention would likely wait for the end of season, when they could take them from us for nothing!
I think it unlikely we get any offers at this time for either Darius or Lance though! If we give them away, how much would we save when having to find their replacements? Loan players are often the most expensive players on a Clubs books at any given time.
And ,of course, it's the players themselves who finally decide if they want to move or not, while under a current contract.
If they are happy at the club, and both seem to be, why would they want too? We are contracted to pay them at their current wages until the end of the season (I doubt they would get much more elsewhere), if we go bust in the meantime, they are free to join any other club they wish.

I would be amazed if we havn't had offers for Lance, I know I'm biased of course but there aren't many better keepers in The BSP or League 2.

Or is it just another of your knowledgeable guesses?

When the playing budget was set for the season Daish issued a statement to MyFC as part of the FOTF donations campaign - in it he said that half the alloted playing budget (about £2,200 per week) was already taken up by the 5 players under contract - Cronin, Charles, Gash, West and Springett. It would be a knowledgeable guess to suggets that Cronin, Charles and Gash were getting the bulk of this money and with Gash gone Cronin and Charles would be the highest paid players left. Given the number of players he signed and the amount of money he had available it is very unlikely that any players Daish signed would come close to the wages of Cronin and Charles.

I think you are spot on, Dom.
I feel we could get away with selling Darius, as we have sufficient cover (Read, Springett, Collins, Pooley).
I am not saying they are better, just that we have a number of options.
    The problem lies with Lance.
If he goes, is young Lamprell up to stepping in as number 1?
A couple of games in the KSC is not enough to say yes or no, so selling Lance may neccessitate getting in a replacement.

Ah! OK Dom it was a guess then. Probably a correct one, more so in Charles case I would think. Goalkeepers are not normally the highest paid squad members though, but LD may well have taken a gamble on him staying fit and preferring to keep a top keeper at this level, with the risk of an unproved youngster, rather than using more of the very small budget he had available. I would think that experienced short term loan players, particularly forwards, could end near the top of the list though. I still doubt either will go, unless they wanted too. and would doubt the cost effectiveness of such moves at this time of the season and the length of their contracts remaining!
To terminate their contracts, would mean paying them to the end of the season at least, so that's no go. In Charles case he has turned down a move to York, one of the highest payers this season. So obviously not so much higher than we pay, to tempt him, although geography played some part. Don't think there is a local club that would be tempted to pay a worthwhile transfer fee and a higher wage, at this time of the season and in the current climate. Having said that, if the players wish to leave and we accept a small or no fee, for them, then we may make a small saving, but it would be small, having to find replacements, at least in Lance's case and the risk of gates falling when the clubs remaining star players depart! Should their departure be the difference between surviving or being relegated, of course we would have just created a much greater financial loss to the club!

I would say we arew unlikely to be getting anyone in given we hadly have the cash to pay the players we currently have. Its more of a case of how many leave.

It wasn't so much Darius turning it down Jim as his missus saying we ain't going. I don't think She would have been quite so p*ss*d off at the thought of a move to Luton or any other club within easy reach of london.
