what a match, but how can we throw away the lead as easy as we did. surely with a manager and assistant who were both defenders in their days this is inexcuasable..................

Very annoying, but a great game none the less. Shakes, Sole, Gash. Long all played really well I thought

Agree - add Hand to that list!! the pass for shakes was superb....

Looking on the Positive sides- we played quite good.
A great debut for Giuseppe Sole also.
Michael Gash really made a good effort tonight, a great goal also, the whole team done good and Im really pleased with the way we attacked although - as fleetboy14 said, how can we throw away a 3-1 lead?However- hope the team take the positives out of the game and continue it into the upcoming games!

A touch of pure class to produce a defense splitting pass with everyone expecting a shot. Gash deserves special credit considering the abuse he has been getting.

Not really i was very pleased with tonights performance whether we threw away a decnt lead or not Gash scoring made up for all the teams misfortunes tonight!!! I agree we should not be throwing away leads like that at home but at least we are scoring which is more than we have done in the last few games! It takes me back to the start of the season when we played Mansfield and Oxford at SR the team sat back and relaxed thinking we were going to win...although i dont think they did tonight i just think Crawley had lady luck on their side tonight i suppose the one positive thing about tonight is at least our goals where proper ones and not goal-mouth scrammbles like their's Tonight Crawley didnt look like they belonged at the top at all it looked like that they belonged down near us somewhere. Evans was just disrespectful to the ref and deserved to be sent to the stands Fat You Know What!!!!! Although we threw aay a lead it give great promise for Swindon 'Supermarine' on Saturday I think we will build on this performance indefinatley (although i said that about the R&D game) But no Definatley we will beat the marines 6/7 nill and im gonna put a £5 bet on that!!!!!
AND ALSO A VERY VERY VERY BIG WELCOME TO GUISSEPPE SOLE AND THANK-YOU FOR SCORING YOUR GOING TO BE GOOD FOR US!!!! UP THE FLEET SEE YOU ALL ON SATURDAY FOR THE 30,000 Crowd!!!!!!!!!!!
BRING ON THE MARINES oh and btw we need BIG time singing on saturday we have a bit of competition apparently!

The result does not reflect the performance at all! The performance was fantastic and a great display it was. Man of the match was hard to pick, but between Shakes, Sole and Gash. I've come away smiling as if we won, because the performance was possibly the best I've seen since Barrow away back in September. Well done to the boys, but that defence needs working on!
Their keeper and the subs on the bench, total w***krs!!!!

Lets look for positives, with recent performances and confidence very low. It was a good performance with good passing and the ball played mainly on the floor. If we play like that for the rest of the season there will be more smiley face days than miserable ones!

Great performance, wobbly defending. Hence the scoreline.
Sole had an excellent first half, Gash showed what he can do when he gets the ball to feet with his face to goal as he did for the pass to Long. Shakes is a new player altogether.
Not blaming the ref for their goal as we should never have been in the position we got ourselves into, but I couldn;t believe the free kick they got. Gash was manhandled, that bloke Quinn all over him, arms everywhere - it was 50/50 best, the last thing I expected (though should have!) was a Crawley free-kick.

Great game to watch shame about their goal in 90+3 mins.funny I thougt there was only 2 mins of additional time, and there goal coming from them getting a free kick for absolutely nothing. The reaction of their bench and their keeper was absolutely disgraceful. inciting the crowd would be an understatement, they had got a point they didnt deserve , and then reacated the way they did disgraceful.

I missed all the willy-waving at the end. What happened?
I did see Daish storm into the tunnel briefly at the equaliser and their directors box appeared to be getting very animated then as well.

I am pretty down about it actually although I do agree with the positives already mentioned.
How we can lose two goals at home within seven minutes when cruising going forward needs to be looked at. It was Mansfield in the cold with better food.
York drew at Alty and Eastbourne did Woking which is pretty cool for us considering. Salisbury and FGR cancelled each other out. Everyone has games in hand over us and we need to get a bit lucky not to fall down the table as the fixtures even themselves out.
We played great and it was a stupid football match but we should have seen it through. It does look like we can be good enough to get through it but we can't keep throwing points away at home.
Shakes, Hand, Gash (especially), Long and G-Man all stood out as did Lance who made about 5 saves to stop it being an absolute crazy match.
Steve Evans was his usual self I see. Tuesday will be fun after tonight.

A great game to watch. Well done to both teams!
That free kick at the end of the game was a poor refereeing decision. It's likely he only gave it Crawley's way because he deemed it the least damaging option to get the game flowing again. Both players were at fault and a 'bounce up' would have been the fairest result. It seems that this option is a last resort nowadays. We still should have defended the free kick though!

To quote the lovely Mr King, Ebbsfleet played football, Crawley played rugby. (Much more effectively it has to be said than we do when we attempt it.) A big hoik, big players up there winning the header, then piling in to pick up the 2nd ball. Not pretty & they were very lucky it brought the reward it did.
The rumour mill says Crawley are spending more than they can afford on expensive loan signings. Was a time when I would have felt sorry if they'd gone bust. Now, no. I thought Crawley were a disgrace off the field. Evans sent off (How many time is that now?) then their assistant & the bench turning round, laughing, gesticulating & goading the crowd in the stand behind them when the equaliser went in. Maybe they had taken the constant jibes from Mr Numpty (anyone who sits in the wing stand will know who I mean) to heart, but the fact remains that if this had happened in a televised league game they would all be in serious trouble for outrageous provocation of the home support. If I was a Crawley supporter, I'd be ashamed of them.

I am a Crawley fan and I am very ashamed of what I am reading. I didn't see any of the events you are describing as I was going mental at the time but I agree there is never any call for that sort of behaviour. It's not the 1st time Mr Evans has made me feel ashamed of my club. I love a passionate manager who feels every ball with the fans but he is something else!
You should be very proud of your team tonight, you deserved all 3 points without doubt. You played some excellent football, I remember at the start of our season when we used to pass the ball too. Happy days! See you all in a bit at our place, lets hope for another good game without the nasty gestures!

we played well after the first five minutes when they shud have had 2...after that we had most of the possesion
i said gash would score
as i always do
sole great debut deserved a couple same as gash
i think as kenny said lastnight gash finally realised he could be dropped so he is now goin' on a run
defence was quite poorbut lets just hope this great overall performance continues for the rest of the season

Cheers Colin. If you speak for the majority of Crawley fans, you deserve more than you are getting from the people who are leading your club. I'd be devastated if we had an Evans, Borg or Hill installed, but I guess I'd still be supporting the team.

Well, wasn't that the most strange match. Both sides were very gung-ho , really good to see an away team playing 3 upo front - even when we had a corner. It made for end to end play.
Our midfield 5 and striker couln't be faulted, a genuine bombardment of the Crawley goal - resulting in 4 spendid goals.
Gash was storming. As I said before, get the ball at his feet, facing goal, he is quality. For the first time in months, we did this consistently, and he at last showed his worth. It was interesting that Liam found space in the midfield to add Sole - he is a fine player coming in from the left flank, with Ricky doing a similar thing from the right.
I'm, not convinced that 4-5-1 is our best set up though, as at times the centre midfield trio of Hand, Barrett and Long looked a little cramped and congested.
Our defence, Cronin and Smith apart, were awful.
Poor positional play and a lack of pace were the main feature, which cost us dearly. Crooks was lame with cramp after 75 minutes, Stone was being caught out of postion by their left winger, and Gash was running out of steam, understandably. We were 4-2 up, THEN was the the time for some bold substitutions, Ricketts on for Stone, Pooley on for Crooks and Ibe on for Gash.
We ALL predicted that nothing would happen until 87 minutes, and guess what? We were correct.
That Crawley managed to equalise came as no great surprise to all around me. That was a game thrown away by lack of imagination and sticking to a game plan created before the match instead of adapting the plan as the game progressed.
Fortunately, results didn't damage us too much last night, but whilst we are not yet safe, the injection of Judge and Sole should give us (and MG) the spark to kick on from here.
Funniest moment. Steve Evens doing a Steve Evans!!!Posted 1 year ago # -
My initial reaction was shock and disappointment. But then thinking about it more deeply I felt really proud of our players, club and fans. It was a great performance, full of passion, committment and skill. No one can tell me that Crawley are better than we are and they were third before the KO.
There is a lot of analytical comment that can be made about the match and I agree with most of what has been posted. However I would just like to thank Liam and the boys for a brilliant match.
Bill Shankly used to say send the crowd home happy. Well I went home happy, if not just a touch rueful at the refs decision to give them the free kick that led to the goal.Tuesday should be interesting mind, whatever team Liam puts out. I wonder if I can get there (and back!)

Good post Rutters. In my opinion, we're still not getting that bit of luck, that on any other day would have seen us win that game. We scored 4 very good goals and conceeded 4 of the softest goals you are likely to see all season. I am proud of the team after that performance but desperately disappointed and worried that we are now edging closer to the abyss of relegation. We badly need points on the board now by hook or crook.

What an entertaining match (although I missed the first ten minutes) just a pity we didn't hold on to the end. I don't think I have ever heard a manager and assistant manager moan and complain as much as Evans and Raynor, don't they realise that abusing (or being sarcastic to) the referee is not going to help their team? As an aside, according to the BBC we didn't have a goalkeeper on the bench, I wonder who would have gone in if Lance had been injured (or did the Beeb get it wrong again)?

We do need points (and some luck).
However whilst I do not include myself as one of life's optimists, if we play like we did last night, we will be fine. 46 games in total are played and so far we have played 30 and got 34 points. Scaling that up gives us 52.
I think we will do better than that so I am forecasting 55 points which will see us home comfortably.
Then next year...Posted 1 year ago # -
I do not include myself as one of life's optimists
Are you sure?
I'm sure (and hope) your right, but the table doesn't make for good reading at the moment.

All we can do is watch and see if the team's below us win their games in hand. If they're facing each other, hope for some draws. But if we play like we did last night, but some sloppy defence, then we should get into the top half of the table come the end of the season.

To be honest, making it into the top half doesn't bother me anymore, just need to consolidate and guarantee our safety asap and perhaps do well in the Trophy or Shield as a bonus.

Let's hope there'll be no more fixture congestion in March and April if we're going for the cup competitions (although Ian will be happy!)
Posted 1 year ago # -
we should not throw away a 3-1 lead at the begging when we went 1-0 down i would of been happy with a draw
got to admit every one played well except from the back for in the last 10 minutes
