Ok have read back over some of the comments over the last few days on this thread.
The one that sticks out is that the local population don't give a hoot.
i'm sure there is a lot of truth in that statement but I think that would apply to any product prior to it being marketed. We have seen that there is at least a passing interest rather than no interest. People are right that going to Wembley is special and it is, but why, if they don't give a hoot did they choose to go to Wemmbley when Ebbsfleet played? Are they not plenty of Wembley games to go and have a jolly with your mates? Did they not go because it was their local team?
Also the free game, 3750 turned up. I have seen plenty of comments since saying, dur of course they did, it was free. However, before the game people also said there would be little interest, less than 2000 was the general prediction, many said less than 1500. It was well promoted though and they came. Now, ok it was free but why did they come? My partner Kate got a couple of tickets to the ballet in convent garden, its expensive the ballet, bloody expensive and wanted me to go with her. I love her to bits of course and enjoy a night out with her very much, but the ballet I had to draw the line on and she took a friend and they had a great evening. The point is that if they were not interested at all then they would not have come to the free game either.
At the beginning of last season, the wembley contacts were all mailed for a 2 for 1 promotion. People will remember that for several games after that, attendances were higher than anticipated.
We have to try and create the demand, and this mailing list is about as targeted as we can hope for.
Also bear in mind that persistance is required. We may not get hundreds piling down to Stonebridge road immediately but these things tend to have a snowball effect if we keep it up.
