If people just want to contribute financially then there is the Fleet Trust (no computer required), the money is, I am sure, just as welcome from the Fleet Trust as it is from MyFC, there is also the Friends of the Fleet scheme that is either a simple one off donation or a regular donation but does not require membership.
If people want to have their voice heard in how they think the club should be run and want to be a part of the decision making process that steers the club then they can join MyFC, their money will still go to the club plus they will be a member of the society that owns 75% of the club, as a member they can get as much, or as little, out of MyFC as they choose to.

I am a member of the Fleet Trust, I donate monthly via direct debit as a Friend of the Fleet and I am a member of MyFC.
Personally, I get a lot more out of being a member of MyFC than I do out of donating via other routes but I understand that not everyone enjoys the MyFC experience as much as I do.

I guess it is all down to personal chance.

Denzil That's the part I don't get. If you can't access the forum, what possible reason can there be for joining? All it is is a fans forum surely?
BTW what's a 'Think club' ?

Apologies but my earlier post was an extract from a thread in the MyFC forum so in isolation isn't all that clear. My reference to Think Club was really trying to detract from looking at this as a specific MyFC thing. There are fans who don't belong to MyFC, either because they haven't got a computer or just don't want to join, who would want to support the club financially. The issue is trying to give these people a simple way of contributing with some recognition - i.e. membership of something and an incentive that would encourage more non MyFC people to contribute.

I believe I saw a list which had us in the U.S. at about 1,000, which likely would be more supporters than even the Championship (how many of us could even name half of the Championship clubs?). I've taken more from this than just the ability to vote and converse worldwide ... it's given me a greater appreciation of the those who run their businesses and work to make them successful. Given the economy, it will take time, but I believe things will turn around. That's why I recently renewed for a second year.

Do fans forums decide the budget at other clubs then? Do fans forums decide whether or not to accept transfer offers? Do fans forums decide whether or not the manager should be offered another contract? Do other forums decide who gets to pick the team?

This is a fans forum Denzil, MyFC is an owners forum.

Even with just 1000/1500 EUFC must have the largest overseas 'support' in English non league football or even League 2 for that matter, Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool and other big clubs in the top flight have a large overseas following, Most of whom have never been to a 'home' match, Those fans keep in touch via the clubs website and the worldwide media and form supporters clubs in their own country, I believe EUFC have a similar situation with fans in the USA. The internet is the best way of keeping in touch with the overseas supporters.

Is it like the opposite of "Fight Club"?

Rule 1 - You do talk about the club
Rule 2 - You DO talk about the club
Rule 3 - If someone says "MyFC, or "Fleet Leisure", or going down - the club is over
Rule 4 - Two sides to a club
Rule 5 - One club at a time
Rule 6 - No money, no debt
Rule 7 - The club will go on forever
Rule 8 - If this is your first night at "Think Club", then you have to donate...

The recent cash flow problems has highlighted that there are a number of fans without computers who want to be part of the club in some way and contribute. These are actual people that have asked for something. Incredibly there are a few people without computers who have joined MyFC and have renewed and are happy.
It may not be for everyone but it doesn't seem unreasonable to provide a facility for those without computers (or even those who feel uncomfortable with MyFC) that do want to be part of the existing club arrangements in some way. It won't be compulsory and in reality it doesn't have to be a MyFC arrangment but just a strengthening of the Fleet Trust offer.

"...for people who don't have a computer/internet and want to be a member..."

I don't really see the point. Frankly I still fail to understand why thousands of people are paying up to a hundred pounds to be a member of a fans forum, many of them for a club they don't even support! Let's not kid ourselves that they 'own' anything, they don't. OK they get an occasional newsletter, great, so what's in it that isn't already in the public domain? They get the odd 'word' from the manager, so does everybody else, it's called programme notes, every manager in the country does it for ALL fans, not just the ones in 'first class'. I can't see anything for anybody who does not have access to the web.

There is a thread on the MyFC site talking about how MyFC can accomodate non computer fans who want to be part of MyFC. Suggestions around a regular newsletter and voting rights have been put forward.

Anyway this is what I have put on the thread. Any thoughts?

Fans Want to be Part of MyFC

Great idea.

BUT we are not very good at honouring our promises. We can't do it efficiently using IT/email let alone doing it using snail mail

Offering voting rights is problematic and would cost money to manage.

A newsletter is great but can we guarantee this will happen!!!! I see it as another potential broken commitment. Someone must take ownership. Resources required to do it identified - cost/someones time etc. Alternative to the news letter is a special section in the club programme - (Q. what happens to those that don't come to the game? - how do they get a programme?).

In reality I feel that many local fans would be happy to donate a regular annual amount (if they can afford it) in return for have some status of, say, Friend of the Fleet. Maybe a membership card that gives some form of small benefit like priority for sell out games (optimism!!), 10% of club merchandise etc.

The Fleet Trust is a vehicle that could do this - maybe we could look at a closer relationship between the Trust and MyFC (not necessarily an amalgamation).

Non MyFC fans are very important to the club - there a number of members of the BOSS who choose not to belong to MyFC. I noticed at the forum that nearly half of those attending were not MyFC members. A great idea to make sure they become an integral part of the club in some way and their value recognised. The club is nothing without them.

I think we should use Fleet Trust Membership as an alternative. This could also accomodate people who can't afford the MyFC deal. The basic membership is £10 but there is a facility for donations.

We are just about to do mailshots to 1400 local supporters where we only have postal addresses. I guess some of these will have email addresses and will have the internet but a lot of those without the internet will be on this list.

for people who don't have a computer/internet why and want to be a member, we should issue them a booklet with all the proposals, news, discussions, votes etc. and also have voting slips in them and issue them to people who want to join up who don't have access, surely this would get the people who don't have access to a computer to become members?
